I believe by now mostly everyone has heard or read about Governor Rod Blagojevich. The Governor of Illinois has been accused of trying to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama. On January 9th, the impeached Blagojevich vowed that he would remain to fight his innocence and fight every step of the way. The house impeached Blagojevich on Friday on a wide array of offenses, including criminal corruption and wasting taxpayers’ money.
The fact of the matter is that “we” as a society have already charged and convicted Blagojevich in our minds. The media has been focusing on only the negative aspects of Blagojevich’s term as Governor of Illinois. Who is say that he is guilty when the court system that we have all come to trust hasn’t even looked at all the evidence. Now, I am not saying that he innocent but, the fact is that no one should accuse the Governor until all of the facts have been assessed and the law has been proven tampered with or not. The media sometimes condemns the convicted without a fair trial. Which in any sense is not what we want as a society. The answer is simple, everyone should receive a fair trial and an open-minded jury…. sometimes in this country that is too far fetched to fathom because of the media coverage.

o yeah, the media made thier decision as soon as thier eyes first read the articles, or the first time the channell was stopped at the morning news to see this mistake. we didnt give him a chance to prove us wrong becuase we didnt wanted to be proven wrong, or to even give him the time of day. by his actiosn the media, "immediatly" chose thier side and stuck with it. when it comes to media decision making, the choices are done very quickly.
ReplyDeleteWhat were we saying in class about prominent people being newsworthy? When it comes to the media's treatment of well-known individuals, the gloves are off. As you say, the media tends to condemn well in advance of any trial. While this man appears to be guilty, I say this based on the amount of inflammatory material I've read in the paper and from seeing his face dodge cameras on television. I've even read pieces about his hair style! The overall impression is GUILTY! Does this sell more papers than bringing up past achievements, a clean record (if he has one), or the possibility that some of the allegations could be false? Front page stories grab your attention; discussion of a man's merits are rarely part of the equation.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to start by saying a statement that is a fact. We all have lied, cheated, and stolen at some point in our lives. Not only as americans, as people and if anyone begs to differ well, they have just lied. Governor Rod Blagojevich isn't on trial for being a selfish, greedy, liar, he's on trial for getting caught. There is no doubt in my mind that quite a few members of the senate have tried this before but for now the media is soaking it all in and i don't blame them. I also believe that america and americans are notorious for 2 things, saying one thing and doing another. In our constitutional rights it states that we are all innocent until proven guilty. America is also supposed to stand for truth and justice so what happened? Well the news and media happened. It's all about the big story and who ever gets it first, wins. I believe the media is responsible for alot of misconscrewed stories in this world. On the other hand, what would we do without it? sounds like a catch 22 to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat an extravaganza January 20th is going to be. The line up is awesome;can you imagine having so many famous people in one place. History in the making for sure. Never before since the march on Washington has there been so many entertainers, high profile individuals, sports figures and people from all walk of life have gathered in one place at one time to take part in history. Never again since Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream Speech, will a city host so many to wittness the swearing end of the new President of the United States. What a day it is going to be.
